Why Free Education Is Important For Nations?

We are living in a world that buys water and food that are naturally available. Talking about education becoming free is quite unlikely. However, in a debate that talks about ‘should education be made free or not’, undoubtedly a lot of us would like to take the side of education being made free. Education, for a lot of reasons, is the most important thing that falls in line with necessities of man. There are a lot of reasons as to why education should be made free of cost, and we have listed them below.

Basic right:

Right to education has gone global, and a right that all of us should enjoy. Speaking of which, it is not an issue if education is made free. This is the major reason as to why education has to be made free of cost. If it is a basic right that all of us have to enjoy education, then why not make it free. Education is still something that is out of the affordable range for a lot of people. If that is the case, then it isn’t fair in calling education a basic right. If education is made free, it will enable a lot of people, in fact, all the people, to get and provide education. Education can change the fate of many. It can improve awareness and increase the standard of living of the people.

Global growth:

The economic growth of the global population is possible only with the help of global literacy. It is only with the help of education people will be able to improve the standard of living. Better standard of living improves the affordability and the purchasing power of the person. Better purchasing power will increase the selling pattern, production percentage and in turn the growth of the economy. Most of us fail to see this long-term goal, and it is pitiable that even nations fail to recognise the importance of education from this perspective. As nations grow, it will cater to global growth. It is a vicious cycle that will prove for the betterment of the economy. This is why free education is a must.

Is it possible?

While we have significant reasons to validate our stand of catering free education globally, the next question arises: Is it possible? Educating a child is fine, educating a hundred might be possible but educating a million kids in one go is definitely a farfetched dream. But if you think of it a bit out of the box, you might yourself find a solution for this question. I strongly believe that it is possible to provide education for free. Imagine removing all the perks that we will ever get from the government, let’s kill of the freebies that we get to enjoy, will that not be enough to provide education for free. With the growth of technology and it is not impossible for the global economy to provide education for free. Know More

5 Reasons Why Education Is Extremely Important

Education is the most important factor in all our lives. Without the light of education, people will live in the darkness of ignorance, innocence, lack of awareness and illiteracy. So without education with no doubt the world would be doomed. Did you ever think how education and literacy differs? People around the globe are making the debate interesting by bringing out a striking difference between education and literacy. So here are some of the reasons as to why education is important.

1.     Knowledge and awareness:

Today, along with food, clothing and shelter, education to has also become a basic necessity of humankind without which man will not be able to survive. Knowledge is the key to man’s survival, and that’s what makes him fit enough to exist in this technology-driven world. So it is knowledge and awareness that a person gets through education.

2.     Employment:

It is through employment that a person can make a decent living. Education is the basic factor that determines the employment that a person deserves. Through employment, the person gets a better employment opportunity and thereby can make a better living. So this again is a basic reason as to why education is important.

3.     Increases the standard of living:

When good employment opportunity is backed by a great standard of living, the person is able to increase his standard of living. Better standard of living increases the buying and consumption pattern of the person. When the purchasing power of a person increases, it increases the production power of the nation as well. A nation with more number of literates is the nation that earns a better status in the global platform.

4.     Better Social Image:

At the end of the day, all of us yearn for a better social image. With the increase in the standard of education and the growth of technology, it is knowledge and awareness that increases a person’s participation in the societal affairs. This will also avoid societal embarrassment, and literates will be able to move with a better class of people.

5.     Political Awareness:

It is this education that keeps us from being deceived by rulers and people in authority.  It is this education and awareness that brought us out of unfair monarchy and bonds of slavery. Many countries that were under the rule of other countries were liberated only when the learned men of the society joined hands to fight against unfair rules that were laid on them. Even today it is education that helps us to be politically aware of the happenings and prevents us from being fooled.

Education vs Literacy:

Yes, literacy and education are two different things. All learned men are literates, but not all literates are learned men. Literacy is merely the act of learning things from books and qualifying yourself by testing the same knowledge. But education is different. Education is when your analytical skills grow, and you are capable of applying all that you have learnt in real life. This is how the terms education and literacy differ.

Learning English through music quiz

Teachers in Kingston International College are experimenting more interesting ways of teaching by introducing students to all kinds of  music.

Our Upper-Intermediate day class teacher Glen recently organized a music quiz for his students, which was fun and enjoyed by everyone in that class. The music quiz consisted of six songs. Students were given the lyrics of these six songs but some words were missing so they had to listen to each song and work in pairs to fill in the gaps. The group with the most points wins.

First of all, we would like to congratulate our winners of this quiz Henry Wilotekto and Junho Seo. Henry is from Indonesia and has been studying English with us since January this year. He will go on to study Cert III in Business Administration in April. Junho is from South Korea and he has been studying with us since August 2012. They are both described by their teacher as hard-working students.

Glen has been running this quiz since he started working in Kingston. He believes this is a great way for students to learn English. By listening to songs and filling in the gaps, students  can actually improve not only their listening but also grammar, and spelling. It also makes learning English more interesting.

In fact, some students are so interested in this quiz that even after they finished studying with Glen, they want to come back and participate in the activity.

Here in Kingston, we are always searching for innovative ways to teach our students and we hope to bring more dynamic teaching styles to our classrooms in the future.

Kingston is sponsoring Western Australia Charity Group

Kingston International College has officially started its journey in helping Western Australians living with vision loss.

With the first donation we made to Association for the Blind of WA, the organization is on the way of making two wonderful new educational initiatives for their Guide Dog program a reality.

This money will be used to install a new path on the association’s Guide Dog training area so that instructors can walk and train their Guide Dogs on a continual circuit. The path will be used to train dogs to negotiate obstacles and allow them to work on different surfaces.

KIC will also fund the South of the River Guide Dog “School Run” and make regular donations to the organization in the future. In addition, we have placed a mini dog in our reception to raise more money for this association.

$300 million wage boost for Childcare workers

There has never been a better time like now to become a qualified childcare worker in Australia. The Federal Government recently announced that $300 million funding will be put into childcare centres around the country to boost childcare workers’ wages.

In order to help childcare centres to maintain qualified staff and to give parents a peace of mind, the Federal Government will provide a $3 per hour pay increase by July to childcare workers with a Certificate III qualification. This equates to a 15 per cent pay increase for our childcare workers.

Childcare centres will have to commit to reasonable fee charges for providing care in order to be eligible for the funds. They also need to commit to limit fee increases to the actual cost of providing care.

According to ABC news, the chief of Early Childhood Australia, Samantha Page, states that the funding is a good start but it does not replace the need for a long-term strategy on how to meet the higher costs of improving quality in child care.

The Federal Government is planning to introduce more strategies to assist childcare workers, in order to reduce staff turnover rate in childcare centres.
