SPECIAL THANKS
Haider Al Kaabi
We would like to say a special thanks to Haider Al Kaabi who is studying for a Certificate IV in Patisserie at Kingston. Haider participated in the event "Have We Become Fixated on Torture?" presented by Professor John Kleinig at Curtin University in June. Haider gave a speech about his experiences.
Haider was a UN refugee who was relocated to Australia seven years ago. He did cooking courses through the Australian Government Apprenticeship Scheme and CentreCare, ad eventually found work as a bakery manager in Mt Hawthorn. His success as a "re-trained person" was recognised by Brumby's with an award in 2005, and by DIAC in 2007. Haider is soon to graduate from Kingston and we wish him every success with his career.
Haider was invited by the United Nations Program for Refugees to speak at Curtin university about his success story. During the practical session in the patisserie kitchen he created a cake in the shape of two hands holding the world, decorated with the UN logo and the Kingston name. He talk the cake to Curtin university for his speech.
He was a-political when asked by the Australian Government for his reasons to study at a private college.

What our Students Say
ELICOS
Paulo Henrique Magalhaes
"I arrived at Kingston two weeks ago and I was very well receved by Marcus and Val. So after this I went to my class where I found really good friendships and a teacher really special Andrea. She is fantastic teacher. I'm having a good time here. And I think that I'll improve my English at Kingston.
I recommend this school to everybody that are coming to Perth."

Shinobu
"I studied at Kingston for 8 weeks. Now I have lots of good memories from school days. For example, we had an Aussie BBQ, we went to the pubs, clubs, and also to Fremantle prison."
We were excited about those events. We were always playing and dancing ... I really liked the atmosphere of the events. It was a great chance to know better other students and we partied to the max each time we were together."

Social Activities
BBQ in Hyde park
A perfect day for BBQ!!! In a perfect place - Hyde Park
We all met at Hyde Park around 11:00 am, and things were on the way for an enjoyable time. The weather was good and so was the company with everyone joining in with games and getting to know each other while the snags were being cooked.
Beef sausages, rolls, coffee and tea were provided by Kingston. Kingston's Student Liaison Officer Sandra Nozawa made the potato salad (the delicious Brazilian Japanese way) and also the fruit cake. Many thanks to Val, Jo and TRicia who came to help.
We gave the students the necessary instructions to do the job : sausage and onion cooking, preparing rolls, and eating well!!

Fremantle Prison Tour
Congratulations to all 16 studets! You are very brave! We were able to experience the fascinating stories of convict prisoners, maritime heroes, murderous mutineers, and pioneering settlers, during a torchlight tour of Fremantle Prison in June.
The Fremantle prison is the largest convict built structure in WA, and is the most intact convict establishment in the country. Decommissioned as a maximum security jail in 1991, the prison was used continuously as a place of incarceration ad punishment for almost 40 years.
The Fremantle prison tour transported us back in time to experience the god and bad of local history. Students were able to see the ghostly empty cells and the stunning art painted straight onto the walls and the inspiring convict built architecture.
